God’s Protection and Provision

November of 2023, My husband walked out of a car accident scratch free but with a broken heart.

His first big purchase in life was his 2007 Honda Accord and now seeing it totaled by someone who just wasn’t paying attention broke his heart. He saved, did his research and purchased this car as a young man and now almost ten years later with a wife, two young children and almost 300,000 miles on this vehicle it was time to say goodbye.

Receiving this phone call, I went into sheer panic. As I rushed down the interstate to where the accident took place, all the thoughts begin running in my head. What now? I thought. We are down a car, only one income and now you are telling me that we have to go out a buy a new car?

CRAP!!!

I am captivated with God when He completely wrecks my plan for His own plan and Glory. See our 2021 BMW lease is up in April 2024 and boy we are beyond excited to get rid of that car payment. This BMW is our first car payment as a couple and we have enjoyed all the bells and whistles, but as most of us have experienced, car payments are daunting.

With me stepping into stay-at-home mommy life, we had been working to minimizing our bills in order to achieve our financial goals as a family. The goal we were already preparing for, was for us to become a one car home momentary with the Honda being our reliable car for the time.

This car accident discouraged me, because now every plan we prepared for just got turned upside down.

As I took my frustration to God and prayed about my worries as well as thanked God for the safe return of my husband it then dawned on me that I now was about to witness a miracle and the goodness of God work in my life yet again! As I pondered this thought, I became even more hopeful, excited and overjoyed by the peace that surpasses all understanding ( Philippians 5:7) that started to reside in my heart. Yes all of my goals were thrown out the window, and yes now we had to be at the mercies of the insurance companies and all the headache that came with that but in the midst of all the anxionness that tired to overcome me,

I OVERCAME and held onto the promises of God.

Devin and I took a good look at each other and realized, we need a bigger car and we were so nervous that the check we would receive from insurance wouldn’t carry us through to the type of car we actually needed because of how old his car was. In that moment, I knew my prayers had better be directed and my faith could not afford any wavering. (James 1:6) So we started believing and walking in our promise. As we began our search for a bigger, more reliable car it became evident we needed third row seating. All of a sudden, I got this wild, unbelievable idea that we should start looking into minivans. Now if you know my husband and I, one of our wedding vows to one another was, “No Minivan”! He fought me tooth and nail at the idea and then, we went to test drive one.

What I came to quickly understand was that…

Having one child is one thing when it comes to loading up the car and going about your day, but once you add that second child and then even start considering a third the space required won’t cut it in any kind of car. Before you know it, you’re riding down the road playing kids bop while drinking yesterday’s water out of your yeti cup, eating on a bag of fruit snacks , with a trunk full of soccer balls, clothes you needed to take to the donation center weeks ago and a car full of kids yelling about which movie they want to watch in the dvd player of the minivan. With a random facebook marketplace post my husband shared with me that he found out of nowhere, my whole motherhood adult life flashed before my eyes and up the road to Charlottesville we went to pick up my MiniVan.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” Proverbs 3:5
