“Seek the Kingdom First “

What does Matthew 6:33 tell us in the greater context of Kingdom Seeking? I remember when I came to this verse and it hit me like a pound of brinks.

I thought to myself, how in the world do I make this apart of my everyday life. Seek the Kingdom First? Woah wait a minute, God surely knows that I have a child, husband, house and a job all to maintain, right? I mean I didn’t even add in the other parts of living that I also need to figure out like eating, working out and Lord forbid…. SLEEP!!! I thought to myself , now that I have chosen to walk in my true dedication of following Christ, the requirement was to Seek the Kingdom First?! God must not know how hard this truly is. But to my surprise, as I asked the hard questions to God surrounding this bible verse is when it came to my deep understanding that he does know how hard this concept is for the busy single mom, the overworked dad or even the overstretch college student.

No matter where we are in life, God knows exactly how challenging life is.

The understanding I have gained with this verse along with many others is the human innate nature to over complicate many parts of our lives. My question in this manner was, what was I overcomplicating that actually kept me from being able to follow this command? I had to ask myself, how could I seek the Kingdom First without creating a wall of resistance and hesitation because of the overbarren nature this required. So, I leave you with the same questions I had to ask myself; Does seeking the Kingdom First mean prayer the moment you open your eyes? Reading your Bible before getting out the bed? Not making a decision till you go to God in prayer first? Or could it just simply mean, laying all your daily burdens, worries, pain, frustration, anger, and hope at the feet of Jesus?

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” -Matthew 6:33-34
